Self Improvement – A Journey of Change

Changing our behaviours is a quick way to change who we are. We put a high value on education in order to complete degrees, as well as a residency to be able to do what we want, but our learning is always directed towards academic courses due to which many people stop actively seeking to learn when they enter their professional lives. Learning is not only about excelling in academics and focusing on getting good grades, the self-improvement and personal development play an equally important role in people’s lives and are highly valuable parts of one’s career. A successful person always makes time for his personal development and growth.

No matter what we’re pursuing, self-improvement and personal growth are critical parts of our progress and happiness. However, our attempts at self-improvement always fail. We don’t know which way to go, so we end up wandering around, hoping to stumble upon the life we want.

Self-improvement or personal growth is a process of developing a person’s capabilities to push him to reach his highest potential in order to enhance the quality of life and realization of aspirations. It takes place over the course of an individual’s entire lifespan and involves working on new habits, fostering new skills, and practicing new strategies. It improves a person’s knowledge and character by his own efforts and makes him better in every aspect of life.

The journey of self-improvement never comes to an end. The more a person grows the more he realizes that there is so much out, so much more to learn. For sure, there is always room for improvement, the human potential is limitless, so it’s impossible to reach a point of no growth.

Self-improvement does not have to entail drastic changes; it can simply involve taking small measures to get to where we want to be. There is only a need for consistency and determination to try things that challenge us.

Working on personal growth can mean a lot of things, a few simple are mentioned below:

 Read books

“Books are concentrated sources of wisdom.” The more books we read, the more wisdom we expose ourselves to. When we’re reading a book every day, we feed our brains with more and more knowledge.

 Learn something new

Learning something new helps us to stretch in different aspects, whether physically, mentally, or emotionally. One must try games, cooking, designing, etc.

Overcome fears

All of us have fears. Fear of uncertainty, fear of public speaking, etc. All of our fears trap us in the same place, preventing us from progressing. We must recognize that our fears reflect areas where we can grow and are the compass for growth.

Get up early

Waking up early is a good way to improve productivity and quality of life. It keeps our mind-set to continue the momentum and proactively live out the day.

Step out of comfort zone

Real growth comes with hard work. Being too comfortable doesn’t help us grow, it makes us dull. We must do something different, it helps us grow by learning in new circumstances.

Acknowledge drawbacks

Everyone has flaws. The most important thing is to comprehend, consider, and address them.

Learn from people who inspire

We must think about people we admire. These people reflect certain qualities we want to have for ourselves.
Focusing on self-improvement can change our lives in many ways:

1. It increases self-awareness and enhances our strengths.
2. It improves our mental health and decision-making skills.
3. It gives us new opportunities.
4. It helps us change the way we think.
