We seem to be stuck in a non-stop news cycle about a virus called COVID-19, which causes illness and respiratory problems . One reason why we are hearing more about this virus is because of the speed with which it is spreading and how much it has affected people in different countries of world.
Just like other provinces, Punjab government is taking initiatives to lead the fight against coronavirus. As far as precautionary measures are concerned, Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in the province to tackle the spread of the coronavirus. At federal level, ‘Pakistan Day’ parade on March 23 was also cancelled. Educational institutions were closed all over the country as the first case appeared.
Every province should actively take part in efforts to contain coronavirus. It is time to tackle the virus than to indulge into politics which has no benefit at all.
Coronavirus is a large family of viruses that causes illnesses ranging from common cold to acute respiratory syndromes, but the viruses has so far killed more than 40,000 people. The virus has affected around 800,000 worldwide.
The number of confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Pakistan has risen to more than 1,800. New cases surface on daily basis. The number is indeed jumping to thousands from some hundreds. At least 28 have been died of this virus.
Talking about Punjab government, it is providing best possible medical facilities as per WHO guidelines, to suspected patients and Zaireen across province in 41 High Dependency Units and Quarantines in major government hospitals.
Two Government testing facilities are held in Lahore and Rawalpindi respectively. One private testing facility has also been established in Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital for free.
They held three Quarantine hospitals for critical patients with capacity of 800 plus beds respectively in all directions. Following centres in various areas of Punjab have been declared major places where anti-corona campaign is underway.
North Punjab: Urology hospital Rawalpindi
Central Punjab: Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI)
South Punjab: DHQ Muzaffargarh
Quarantine Centres for Zaireen have been built primarily at DG Khan, Bahawalpur and Taftan to meet their needs. Those coming from Iran especially are still being quarantined there to make sure that they are safe and sound and declare negative through test. And only then they go to their homes.
Along with the patients, the protection of the staff and doctors is also mandatory. Protective suits provided to all healthcare professionals working in isolation wards and their counters. Testing kits are available.
Chief Minister is directly monitoring all the activities. In fact chief ministers of all provinces are panicked and updating masses and media on regular basis regarding coronavirus cases and counter-measures.
“Don’t pay heed to rumors, you only need to be tested for #COVID19 if relevant doctors advises you to do so. The government of Punjab is conducting free tests of patients who kept in isolation wards. The people suffering from seasonal flu, cough, etc have no necessity to be tested for the pandemic patients”.
Every province should actively take part in efforts to contain coronavirus. It is time to tackle the virus than to indulge into politics which has no benefit at all. Thus no need to panic; better to be safe, stay at home.
