Imran Khan: Ambassador of Kashmir in true sense?

Prime Minister Imran Khan hits India where it hurts the most on issue of Kashmir. Be it General Assembly or World Economic Forum, he raised Kashmir’s voice with utter vigor and pep. He is one of the leading politicians from Pakistan who interpolated the issue with fine touch of history making him the most heard orator. When he visited United Nations, he talked as if he were a true ambassador of Kashmir in occupied valley.

Imran Khan should be given exceptional marks when it comes to his government’s foreign policy. It was during his tenure that India revoked special status of occupied Kashmir by targeting article 35-A and 370, but the respond from him was up to mark.

Building narrative on a certain issue is the first thing to success. Pakistan under PM Imran Khan is pointing out the real issue in the most superb way. Name any leader from past who dared name RSS and extremist philosophy of Hindutva in India which is dangerous not only for Pakistan but for Moderate Hindus and minorities living in Modi-led state.

Areas where Imran Khan was different from his predecessors

Imran Khan talked of RSS ideological beliefs and jointed them with ‘Nazism’. This is where the world gave attention to him and ultimately to Kashmir cause. Imran Khan himself expressed this while talking to Azad Kashmir legislative assembly. He knew this similarity can help him achieve the set objectives.

He utilized every forum, and during his meeting with international leaders including Donald Trump, Justin Trudeau, Angela Merkel and others, he made the most of each and every minute with them. He asked them to at least have a close at developments occurring in Kashmir. This was the reason nationalist Trump talked of at least offering his ‘good offices’ – the offer to mediate between arch-rival Pakistan and India – for resolving Kashmir.

Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel gave pro-Kashmir statements during her visit to India. Justin Trudeau did the same, and received cold treatment from BJP-run nationalist Indian government.

Malaysia one of the leading Asian powers also gave relevant statements and Narendra Modi in response to it halted importing palm, Malaysia is one of the leading palm oil producing states. Although this financially harmed Malaysia, but Imran Khan’s mentor, his Malaysian counterpart Mahathir Mohammad stuck to his views about India.

Will real change occur?

It is true that by giving interviews to media and talking of Kashmir issue at international forums will not beget the desired results, but at least it would build narrative – the main point lacking from Pakistan side for decades.

Building narrative on a certain issue is the first thing to success. Pakistan under PM Imran Khan is pointing out the real issue in the most superb way. Name any leader from past who dared name RSS and extremist philosophy of Hindutva in India which is not only dangerous for Pakistan but for Moderate Hindus and minorities living in Modi-led state.

Exposing the said ideology is first step towards a vast goal. Policy stance that has never been taken by any leader has been taken by Imran Khan. Now Pakistanis would have to continue building its case. Diverting from the policy stance won’t produce desired results but sticking to it would, sooner or later.
