Cricket revival in Pakistan – A note for PCB

The day 3rd march 2009 when armed militants attacked on Sri Lankan Cricket at Liberty Roundabout is known to be black day in the history of Pakistan cricket. No causalities happened in that attack but this event marked the end of international cricket in Pakistan for quite some time. On the other hand Pakistan has lost her repute and soft image in International sports market.

Fortunately that dark span of time faded away and now after a period of more than 10 years, cricket has been revived in Pakistan. It is a good omen and no less than a blessing for Pakistanis.

Building hotel and all other facilities around cricket stadiums would save a lot of time, efforts, and finance not only for PCB and authorities but also for masses. Now that cricket has been revived in Pakistan, it is high time to build sports structure. This concept resembles to sports cities consisting of all facilities.

No doubt it is a big achievement for Pakistan in the field of cricket because PCB official’s intimately endeavor for revival of cricket. Being an eye-witness of this tingling and hectic situation, I observed traffic jam-packed on roads. Advisory was issued by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) for Traffic plans.

1600 traffic wardens including 90 inspectors were appointed for safety and security of the team. Keeping all this into consideration, the traffic remained stuck adding to people’s miseries. Although cricket restored in Pakistan and everything went smoothly but the pain that masses in Lahore had to bear is unimaginable.

In this regard, there is something else that could have been done in order to run things smoothly not only for players, authorities but also for the masses. The major thing that caused curb on masses was the moment of foreign and national players from cricket ground to hotel. Mess out of this should have been controlled by constructing a five star hotel in the premises of Gaddafi Stadium.

Taking players from ground to hotel is expensive and risky. It also disrupts everything and chokes traffic in metropolis. Most important of all it is too perilous keeping in view the security situation. To curb this issue PCB should construct five star hotel around Qaddafi stadium. This would not only ensure safety but also save financial cost.

Now that PSL 5 edition is around the corner, had PCB constructed hotel with all luxuries, resources could have been saved. From now on, especially with the recent successful tour of Bangladesh, PCB must consider this option. It may need time but it is worth giving a shot!
