Opposition in Opposition: A house divided against itself

Bunching on collective gains is the top priority of all political parties waiting for their turn after five years. Resignation of Imran Khan, overthrow of his government and re-election may be the shared objectives of all opposition parties. Apart from these particular demand, we see all opposition parties are playing their own cards. Nothing is common among them. These were the worst adversaries of each other in the recent past. So their alliance seems to be naturally unnatural. Azadi March and Dharna of Maulana Fazalur Rehman unveiled them. It was the political death for PMLN and PPP standing behind a religious party having no numerical majority in Parliament.

Nevertheless, Maulana succeeded in bringing as many people as to grind the teeth of government. The real opposition parties lacking genuine leadership shrank to come in the field. Anyhow, this Dharna left manifold controversies to be resolved by opposition parties to play their role as a true opposition. It is undoubted that this opposition will not be blamed for friendly opposition but enmities among them will allow IK government to pass the period smoothly and placidly.

The traditional opposite parties of past PMLN and PPP can never inter mingle their fundamental ideologies with each other. They may have an alliance for time being for common interest but always will stand at 180 angles. Awami National Party and Pukhtunkhwa Mili Awami Party had no soft corner for Jamiat in the past. They also appeared on the Container boosting Maulana to create some unusual and uncertain situation in the country. Now echoes of in house change areanother drama to wrap the previous failure planning and each party building of mosques of their own. Rahber committee became a fun and mockery without any direction and without any solid agenda.

Lame democracy is far better than well-established dictatorship. Opposition should not seek short cuts and adopt constitutional way to change or pressurize the government. But before it, they will have to be united and sincere with each other. Instead of wasting time in APC’s, they should meditate on grave strategy not resulting in embarrassment for them.

Nawaz and Shahbaz departure and Zardari ‘s confinement are providing a safe ground to play on both the side of the wicket for ruling party.Dispersed opposition is another bonus for the government. But unfortunately it is being observed that PTI is an intrigue party in the history of Pakistan which is in opposition of its own government. Blunders by its leadership and its ministers have left no place for opposition to oppose. They are behaving like opposition sitting on treasury Benches. Perhaps, they are not dead sure that they are in power now. Miss handling and ill tackling is story of routine giving a chance to media to criticize them on daily basis.

Question to answer is where stands opposition now? Are they really serious to bring in house change? They can do it only by some favour of MQM or PMLQ which seems annoyed at the government. Imran government is in rule by a minority difference but opposition differences are enough to strengthen the government in spite of such a nominal edge. The opposition has not come out of coma after movement of no confidence against Chairman of Senate. Again what happened in case of movement of no confidence against Deputy Speaker? Some of the members of opposition are playing triple game. They are in constant contact with the government, attending opposition meetings and making castles in the air for forward bloc. So,atmosphere for opposition is not conducive to bring a change in the house. Furthermore, government and army are reading the same book as stated by its own ministers and repeated tweets by DG ISPR.

Neither government nor opposition has any concern about common people issues. They have nothing to do with high mounting dearness, unemployment and poverty.Nothing will come out of disturbing the apple cart. Change of system is unavoidable now. Only change of faces is not its permanent remedy. Lame democracy is far better than well-established dictatorship. Opposition should not seek short cuts and adopt constitutional way to change or pressurize the government. But before it, they will have to be united and sincere with each other.Instead of wasting time in APC’s, they should meditate on grave strategy not resulting in embarrassment for them.

They should raise the public issues to get public sympathy and moral support. Public also thirst to get rid of this government which has put their survival in danger. Black sheep in the row of opposition ought to be located and identified and then think to take collective measures with fruitful consequences. Otherwise, Puppet show will continue and no one will ever know who is really shaking the strings. Opposition should cease to oppose each other behind the curtains. Second rank leadership of two mainstream parties should take mature steps to oppose the government against its unconstitutional administrative actions.
