Different Episodes of Police Drama

Savage and brutal behavior of police is always condemned but some other stigmas are also attached with it. Its defective investigation system and its hindrances in the way of speedy justice are unveiled to all. Instead of providing security and sense of being safe under its umbrella, people try utmost to avoid it. The reasons behind it are multiple and overlap each other. The process from FIR to submitting final challan is so hazardous and mental torturing that most of the people prefer to remain silent rather than being disgraced.

Any person entering the boundary line of police station is considered to be the sack of currency. At each and every step, there are different rates of concerned officials and officers. The person seeking justice or compensation is looted like bridegroom. He is so exhausted and agonized that he firmly decides never to come to police station again. Among countless episodes of police drama, some are being presented for the awakening the conscience of higher authorities.

They even do not register FIR at any damage because they know the tedious and unjust process from FIR to final challan which guarantees no remedy. All authorities are well aware of this inhuman treatment by police. Their criminal silence will be answerable on the day of doom. As long as, this set up exists, no hope for immediate and fair justice.”


Episode 1

The story begins when some mishap occurs with some unfortunate person who makes his mind to report it. He is first of all faced with agent who promises him to have direct dealing with Senior House officer. A handsome amount is handed over to him and the affected person returns home with high hopes. Again, after some days he touches the political agent and rate is fixed with SHO according to the grievance of offence. It varies from 25000 to 2 lac. The story does not end here. It is only the first episode of many acts play.

Episode 2

Some payment is demanded by the Munshi to launch an FIR. Entry of different sections in FIR has different rates and this controversy is resolved by the agent with an amount acceptable to parties, police and plaintiff. FIR is marked to another police officer called IO (Investigation Officer).He has his own demands and rates. He determines the rate according to the offer of accused party. Affected person is again compelled to satisfy him by filling his pockets.

Episode 3

The vans of police always require fuel to be filled by plaintiff to arrest the opposite party. Meanwhile, an application is launched by accused party for inquiry with the full conspiracy and consent of IO. Time and again hearing is a new headache for the complainant. Double plot is also a part of this drama. New applications and new contradictions create an uncertainty and the clouds of disillusionment prevail.

Episode 4

Double plot is also a part of this drama. On one side the process of inquiry is on the way, on the other side if someone is arrested, he is detained in lock ups and not presented before the magistrate for physical remand. Another scene of demand of bundle of currency is played. After taken remand, new game of competition of both parties begins. The plaintiff desires to prove him guilty in Zimni while accused party urges for declaration of innocence. Wealth wins and report is written in favor of those who offer maximum in this bidding. This process is a bed of roses for IO. He engulfs maximum sum than any other officer. He also swindles by tricks of writing zimni in ones favor and presenting before the court in other favor. He is trying his best to satisfy both parties by assurance that justice will be done. He is well aware of maxim “justice hurried is justice buried”. So, he is in no hurry to settle the issue otherwise his permanent source of income will cease.

Episode 5

Till the last remand is taken and final challan is submitted, a lot of twists and turns come in the story. Both parties are on the horns of dilemma about their fate. The entry of third party which dominates particularly the south Punjab, turns the tables. The feudal lord orders authoritatively to write the final challan according to his own credit. Denial of high influenced political figures’ orders would be ranked insubordination. No one including DPO is ready to take risk of his transfer or suspension of his service.The fascist orders are abide by.

All previous reports are now part of dust bin. In reality, all the police station is at the beck and call of these ruthless rulers. The plaintiff lost his victorious game at the last stage having no personal political contacts. He feels like a lost gambler who lost everything, his actual damage, his time, his hard earned and hard saved income and above all lost his nerves too to fight again. The accused is either released after discharge of FIR or sent to jail on judicial remand which is a high relief in comparison with physical remand.

It is not the story of one person, it is being behaved with every person who knocks the door of police station. The policies are crushing already crushed ones. Even the threats and intimidation from the police officers for compulsory settlement is another tragedy. One who register a complaint to higher authorities against the ill treatment of police, he is continues target of police. He will be either put into the lock ups or facing a number of illegal FIRs. He remains scared all his remaining life. The question is who will change this absurd and corrupt system. The government proclaiming high slogans of Change has no agenda of change or reform in police in the near future. Till than the public is on the pity of this pitiless system.
