People of Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have been observing solidarity day with the people of Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) with the pledge to continue their support for the freedom struggle of Kashmiri people. On the solidarity day human chains are made at the main entry and exit points linking Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) with Pakistan while rallies and protest are being taken out to condemn the rising human rights violations in IOK. President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi will visit AJK and address the Legislative Assembly session to express the solidarity with people of IOK.
The main purpose to observe solidarity day is to send an open message from the people and government of Pakistan to the Kashmiri brothers that they are not alone in the ongoing freedom struggle and Islamabad will continue to support them politically, morally and diplomatically till the final decision of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute as per the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris. On the solidarity day seminars and debates are conducted in schools and college across the country and AJK to expose the rising human rights abuses committed by Indian government and its forces in held Kashmir. The concept of the solidarity day was given by former Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JIP) Qazi Hussain Ahmed in 1990 and was officially endorsed by the then prime minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto.
On this day every political, religious, social and non-political party of Pakistan comes on the roads to express their solidarity with the valiant people of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir to salute their sacrifices which they rendered for the breaking of the shackles of slavery.
In 1987 when Indian government rigged the general elections of IOK assembly in which Muslim United Front (MUF) was given heavy mandate by Kashmiris. The rigging in the elections forced Kashmiris to pick of army for the political rights.
Since 1990s more than one lakh Kashmiris were martyred in which 7,120 were martyred in custody, 22,898 women lost their husbands, 1,07,756 children were made orphans, 11,111 women were molested , 1,45,597 civilians were arrested and 1,09,205 buildings and houses were set on fire by the Indian forces to crush the ongoing indigenous liberation movement of the people of IOK. Search operations, identification parades, crack-downs and house arrest of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders are main tools of Indian forces which are still in practice across IOK to silent the people of Kashmir.
Besides the world now intellectuals and politicians inside India are openly saying that Kashmiris are not with India and they have been kept by force to accept the sovereignty of New Delhi which has no roots in public in IOK.
On February 3, 2019 Indian premier Narendra Damodardas Modi’s IOK visit was the ample proof and even referendum from the Kashmiris against Indian illegal rule when Modi was greeted by the deserted streets of Srinagar and even in famous Dal Lake visit there was not even a single Kashmiri to interact with him.
Hence 2019 Pakistan’s solidarity day with the people of IOK has more significance than pervious and Kashmiri leaders across the Line of Control (LoC) also hailed the Pakistan’s stand on Kashmir dispute in the London conference held on February 4, 2019 in British parliament where Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi along with AJK leadership and both the British parliament members of Labour and Conservative parties pledged to support the Kashmiris right of self-determination movement. In this conferee in connection with Kashmir solidarity day overseas Pakistanis and Kashmiris also played pivotal role to expose India. Besides the Pakistan embassy officials in London Tehreek-e-Kashmir United Kingdom (TeK) UK President Faheem Ahmed Kayani and other political parties leaders based in UK played a key role to make the London conference for Kashmir cause a story of success. Dunya Media Group also arranged a Kashmiri conference in London in which AJK President Sardar Masood Khan was the chief guest who also appreciated the role of Dunya Media Group for the promotion of Kashmir cause in United Kingdom.
