Educational Reforms

Education is the basic right of every individual. It has the power to open the mind and to make the destination clear. Education is a step by step process of gaining knowledge and set of skills. It has multiple benefits and positive effect on a person’s life. It gives us knowledge of the world around us and changes it into something better. It helps us to build opinions and have points of view on things in life. Only educated people can make this world a better place to live in. It teaches us how to socialize and most importantly it humanizes us. It is due to our learning that we are able to engage and interact with our environment. As one of the most famous saying by Nelson Mandela;

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

The educational system of Pakistan is based on different mediums which divides the students in two segments. Mostly private schools are English medium while the government schools are Urdu medium. Unfortunately, regional differences play a major cause for poor educational system in Pakistan. Moreover, Education is also one of the most corrupt sectors in Pakistan. Almost 70 percent of funds are allocated for education from which almost 40 percent of the funds are utilized somewhere else and only 20 percent remains for the educational sector.

Pakistan’s spending on education as a percentage of GDP remains among the lowest in the region South Asia which was 2.2 percentage of GDP in the fiscal year 2017 as compared to 2.3 percentage of GDP in the fiscal year 2016. It is sad to see that children of Pakistan are way behind in getting education than every other country in the region.

The lack of high standard quality and infrastructure of public education in Pakistan, corruption that usually takes place in exam boards and in funds allocation, and widespread cheating have also mainly contributed to our nation’s decline. However, the central challenge of education reform in Pakistan is to improve the standard of education that can be achieved by student learning outcomes, or what students are expected to know or be able to do.

Therefore, the solution to improving education quality rapidly at scale must involve technology. Technology offers teachers and students access to educational content and assessment tools that are normally out of reach. Technology adoption in education can enhance teacher skills and capabilities, provide students with unparalleled high-quality instruction that is customized to their needs, and enable independent and unbiased assessment of student learning. While technology won’t replace teachers, but technology in the hands of teachers can bring great transformation.

There is a lot of need required by the new government to focus on poor education system of Pakistan. We now want the government to adapt an intelligent approach to cater the need of high standard education that almost raise from every part of the country to delivering education reform through utilization of technology in an effective manner especially in the classrooms that can also help to develop student’s interest towards education , through proper utilization of funds that are allocated only for educational sector, if we want to see Pakistan stand among developed nations then it is essential that the government allocates and fully utilize a decent budget for that ensures equal and quality access to education for all students of the country and also make a better infrastructure of education system especially for public schools. Schools also have to revise the educational curriculum at least once or twice in a year so that students have knowledge about recent studies.
