Etymology of “Pakistan”

“Pakistan” the name of our beloved country that consists of eight letters. The word Pakistan has a lot of importance since a long in patriotic and emotional both contexts. Since the establishment of Pakistan nation lovers are excited to know about the information of word Pakistan. How it was produced and how it was created?

Which story is behind the alphabets of word Pakistan?

All the information is noted here with brief descriptions. The name of country was coined in 1933 as Pakistan by Choudhry Rahmat Ali, a Pakistan movement activist.

“Choudhary Rahmat Ali” the man who conceived the idea of Pakistan. Pakistan declaration was a pamphlet written and published by Choudhary Rahmat Ali, on 28 January 1933, in which the word Pakistan (without the letter “I”) was used for the first time and was presented in the round Table conference in 1933.

They came up with the term “Pakistan” as composed of letters taken from the names of our homelands: that is Punjab, Afghania [North West frontier province], Kashmir, Iran, Sindh, Tukharistan, Afghanistan and Balochistan. It means the land of Pakistan, the spiritually pure and clean.

You would be very amused to know that the word Pakistan is itself an abbreviation. Word Pakistan in Urdu language has seven letters. In Urdu it is written as پاکستان” “and the words are :

The first letter “pay”  پis taken from Punjabپنجاب Punjab is the largest province of Pakistan in terms of population.

The second letter “Alif” is taken from the word Afghania افغانیہ which is another name for the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa  (previously names NWFP or North west frontier province) .

Third the letter “kafک is taken from Kashmir which Pakistan proclaims its own part.   Forth the letter “س“  the letter “ seen “ is taken from initial of province naming sindh .

And in final words the remaining three letters are “Tay ت“, “alif ا” “noon ن“ which are collectively pronounced as “ taan “ .

This letter word is the last part of the name of province naming Balochistan (Baloch-is-taan). So these seven letters of Urdu language make the word Pakistan and it is written in perso -Arabic script as پاکستان  .

Another meaning of Pakistan is just a coincidence. The word pak “پا”   means pure and the word “Stan” ستان means place. So it becomes Pakistan.

Our Pakistan, our country on which we can give our lives. May this information of word Pakistan make the youth more patriotic with new enthusiasm and zeal.

    This is nonsense. Was Bangal never considered to be the part of Pakistan, while choosing the name of the country.

    Istan means a place and pak mean pure. Our incestors wanted to have a land with just society.
