According to Annual School Census 2016 conducted by Punjab Government, the Provincial Constituency PP-297 is the most backward constituency in District Rahim YarKhan with respect to education infrastructure. Residents of this constituency don’t have a single government facility for post-matric education.
The constituency has neither higher secondary school nor a college. The students have to travel to another constituency, PP-296, to continue their education.
As per the Annual School Census 2016 there are a total 266 schools in PP-297. Out of these 83% percent schools are restricted to primary, which means only 17% have post-primary educational facilities.
For a constituency of more than 300,000,there are only 18 high schools out of which only 39% are for girls. There is just a single post matric facility that was built in Bhongand has been lying dysfunctional for many years.
With funds of 14 million, a building on 12 kanal land was constructed for Girls Inter College in 2010, but education department refused to take charge of that college as the budget could not be allocated for it at all.
Concerned MPA Rais Ibrahim Khalil, who belongs to PPP, complained about discrimination of Punjab Government in provision of educational facilities to his constituency.
“I, with my personal efforts, sanctioned funds from Federal Government in the last tenure for Government Girls Inter College Bhong Sharif. The building of the college was also constructed, but that could not be brought into functioning as no staff and budget is allocated by Punjab Government,” he said.
Mr. Karam Din, who is a resident of Denu Shah part of PP-297,said that the constituency is spread over an area with 50 kilometer radius and boys and girls from his constituency have to travel a long way to study in college that situated at Sadiqabad.
He demanded Chief Minister Punjab to take notice of plight of PP-297 residents and announce atleast one boys and one girls’ college for the PP-297 so that students can live up with their aspirations to be educated.
Mere inclusion of Article-25 A in the constitution means nothing for citizens of Pakistan.
