Conte’s Chelsea all set to challenge European giants next season

This Chelsea team looking even better than 04/05 side Chelsea won their fifth Premier League title after beating West Bromwich Albions in an away game and registered their 28th win of the season. They have not only won the title but they are also looking to make a new Premier League record of most wins in a season. When Jose Mourinho joined Chelsea in 2004/2005, he was given unlimited amount by Roman Abrahamovic to spend the money and bring the players who could win the title.

Mourinho spent more than 150 million pounds and brought Didier Drogba, Arjen Robben, Peter Cech and many other players, who made an instant impact and won the title for Chelsea by making a record of 29 wins in a season.

That side had a rock solid defence and had taken all the teams by surprise by beating Manchester United in the first game. But current Chelsea side is looking even better than that team. After finishing at 10th place in the last season, this team bounced back in the best possible way.

They had a new manager, who was happy to finish in top 4 at the start of the season and did not have his hopes too high as he had taken over a side which looked unbalanced after a disastrous year.

The defence looked to be the biggest problem in that side and fans wanted numerous signings to make the defence strong. The best player of the club, Eden Hazard was no way near his best in the previous season whereas Pedro Rodriguez was unsettled after joining the club. There were also reports that he regretted joining Chelsea from Barcelona.

To solve the defence problem, Antonio Conte brought David Luiz back from PSG. Chelsea fans were surprised how he could go back to someone, who they had sold away two years back. Conte also brought Marcus Alonso, who had played against Chelsea for bottom-table club Sunderland.

The 3-0 loss against Arsenal and the defeat at home against Liverpool indicated that there were many flaws in the team and they were probably going to have a season like 2015-16. But then that side started one of the best ever winning streaks of Premier League. They went on to win 14 games in a row after winning just 3 out of first 6.

They thrashed everyone that came in their way and registered 29th win of the season against Watford last night. They have equalled their own record, which has been done by them three times now. Even though Manchester United has won the title 13 times, they have never won 29 games in a season, but Chelsea would be looking to improve their record in the last game of the season against Sunderland.

Even without spending too much at the start of the season, and finishing at their lowest position in two decades last season, Chelsea have managed to give their best season till date and would be looking to strengthen their squad further next season. If they can bring few more world class players next season, they would surely give a tough time to European giants like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich next season.
