It was the eve of November 21, I was hanging out with my friends. It was Saturday and my day off from office. We always talk about cricket whenever we get together.
On that day, over the cup of tea, the stream of discussion and gossip turned to Muhammad Amir, who had just completed his ban of 5 years from International Cricket Council (ICC). A few of my friends were not big fans of Amir yet I do not share their opinion. I believe in talent, I believe in Amir.
He can’t perform as well as he did in the yesteryears, say the nay-sayers. Yet I disagree. The timing of the discussion was interesting as well. Muhammad Amir was due to bowl in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on the next day as he would be donning the shirt of Rangpur Riders. I decided to take my chances with Amir.
On 22nd November, 2015 (Sunday), BPL started and Amir played his first big game against Chittagong Vikings after hiatus of 5 years. I knew it was Amir’s shot at redemption. He knew it too and according to my expectations he gave his best and picked four scalps including wicket of Pakistani Test captain Misbah ul Haq.
I can bet on Amir, I can always bet on Amir because I can’t forget his spells when he neutralized Australia’s batting on Australian soil. I also bet that he would be chosen for national squad after the BPL and today I stand vindicated the bet when Amir has been picked for Pakistan’s training squad for upcoming New Zealand series.
